Overview
AutoPublish does not publish to WordPress through a plugin. It connects from the outside, over the WordPress REST API, authenticated by an Application Password — a native WordPress feature. Nothing runs on your site, there is no plugin to maintain, and you can sever the connection any time by revoking the password. This page walks the WordPress path specifically: creating the credential, connecting the site, setting how posts should land, and what happens when an article publishes. It is the same core pipeline as everywhere else on AutoPublish — the WordPress-specific parts are the connection and the post fields.
Step by step
- 1
Create a WordPress Application Password
In WordPress, go to Users → Profile → Application Passwords, create one named for AutoPublish, and copy the generated password. This is built into WordPress — no plugin to install.
The Application Password is separate from your login password and can be revoked at any time from the same screen, which immediately cuts AutoPublish's access.
- 2
Connect the site in AutoPublish
Add the site in AutoPublish with your site URL, username, and the Application Password. AutoPublish verifies the REST API connection and pulls in your existing categories and authors.
- 3
Set posting defaults
Choose the default category, the post author, and whether articles publish live immediately or land in your WordPress Drafts. These settings apply to every post for this site.
- 4
Generate the article
AutoPublish generates the article against its SERP brief, your brand voice, and Business Brain — with a featured image and meta title and description produced alongside the body.
- 5
Pass the quality gate
The article is scored by the 14-signal quality gate. Only articles that pass become eligible to publish; anything below threshold is held back for regeneration or review.
- 6
Publish over the REST API
AutoPublish posts the article via the WordPress REST API — the featured image uploaded to your media library, the SEO title and meta written to Yoast or Rank Math fields, the category and author set. An IndexNow ping can fire on publish.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to install a WordPress plugin?
No. AutoPublish connects over the WordPress REST API with an Application Password — a native WordPress feature since version 5.6. Nothing is installed on your site, so there's no plugin bloat and no widened attack surface.
Is the Application Password safe to use?
Yes. It's a dedicated credential for API access, separate from your login password, and you can revoke it instantly from your WordPress profile. Revoking it immediately ends AutoPublish's access to the site.
Will posts work with Yoast SEO or Rank Math?
Yes. AutoPublish writes the SEO title and meta description into the fields those plugins read, so AutoPublish posts behave exactly like posts created by hand.
Can I publish to drafts instead of going live?
Yes. Set the connection to draft mode and articles land in your WordPress Drafts for review. Many site owners start in draft mode and switch to direct publishing once they trust the output.
Can I connect more than one WordPress site?
Yes. Each WordPress site is its own connection with its own credentials, categories, and posting defaults — managed together from one AutoPublish account.
When AutoPublish is not the answer
We would rather you know now than sign up and churn. AutoPublish is not the right tool if any of these describe you:
- You need a few deeply original thought-leadership pieces — that is a job for a specialist writer with real lived experience, not a volume tool.
- You will not review AI output at all. The 14-signal quality gate is a safety net, not a replacement for editorial judgment.
- You want to publish thin content fast to game search. The quality gate is built specifically to stop that — you would be fighting your own tool.
- Your content needs licensed expertise — medical, legal, or financial advice — without a qualified expert reviewing it before publish.
- You need original news reporting or investigative journalism, which depends on primary sourcing AutoPublish does not do.
